The very first Mr. Bubble character was introduced in 1961 on a box of powdered bubble bath flakes. He consisted of a pink bubble with white outlines. The arms and eyebrows were also bubbles. His classic grin, big eyes, and big nose made up the features you have come to love.
Late in the 1960′s, a new version of the character was introduced on another powdered bubble bath package. Here Mr. Bubble is at home in the bathtub, surrounded by overflowing bubbles. If you look very closely, you will see little bubble arms and even bubble fingers. Later this same image was used on the first bottle of liquid Mr. Bubble Bubble Bath.
In the 1990′s, Mr. Bubble was launched as more of a character, rather than just bubbles. He was shown on packages in a brightly-colored inner tube with a yellow Rubber Ducky pal. This character was the first to feature feet and hands. It is still clearly Mr. Bubble, though, with the big facial features and happy smile.
After The Village Company purchased Mr. Bubble in 2008, we wanted to bring him back to his roots with bursts of bubbles. Surrounding the character with just bubbles made him jump off the packages and made sure consumers knew this product was all about the tubs full of bubbles.
After doing much research with Mr. Bubble consumers, we found it was time for another evolution of the character. Mr. Bubble has been putting smiles on faces for 50 years, and we wanted to make sure he was positioned for another 50+. The new design was done to be more animated and appealing to today’s kids, while still maintaining the nostalgia that parents know and love.
